Rondo Neighborhood Streets
Mend Collaborative is working with residents and stakeholders in St. Paul, Minnesota, to develop a comprehensive, community-led vision for transportation improvements within the historic Rondo neighborhood and adjacent areas. The vision supports greater connectivity throughout the city's most racially and economically diverse City Council ward while strengthening connections to regional transit and major planned public investments. Building on years of studies by agencies and community organizations, the project reimagines the public right of way as a community asset by recommending transportation and infrastructure improvements that better meet neighborhood needs while enhancing the broader street network across Saint Paul.
The team developed health and equity impact assessments and established project prioritization criteria based on potential community benefit, recognizing the lasting harms caused by past transportation investments and identifying generational improvements that help repair those impacts. To ensure the vision reflects community priorities, the team engaged local youth through a summer program to gather input and build awareness, while convening a technical working group to guide discussions on resiliency, green infrastructure, and the future of the public right of way.
